Have you filled a bucket today?

The idea of Bucket Fillers is based on the book "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud.
The idea behind this book is that we all carry an invisible bucket that contains our feelings.
When our bucket is full, we feel great. When our bucket is empty, we feel sad.
A bucket filler is someone who says or does nice things for other people. They smile and are friendly and caring. By doing  and saying kind things, they are filling other people's buckets and filling their own bucket at the same time. We are encouraging the children to be bucket fillers at home and school.

On the other hand, a bucket dipper says or does things to cause other people to feel bad. They might make mean comments, hurt others and generally put others down. A bucket dipper empties their own bucket when they say and do mean things. With this concept from the book, it is easier for the pupils to recognise that we can all have moments that we are bucket dippers and that these moments can have a negative effect on others.
We are promoting the good feeling that you can have from being a bucket filler and of course discouraging bucket dipping always! JF
